Scottish tragedy in Sardinian

There are some sneak previews of the 22nd edition of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival. This year’s festival will take place from 27th July to 5th August 2018.

The Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival is one of the mostly recognised theatre events in Poland. Last year it received the prestigious EFFE Award – which is the scheme for the recognition of Europe’s remarkable festivals selected by the European Festivals Association with the support of the European Commission and European Parliament.

Mainstage

Festival’s main programme includes theatre performances from Argentina, Iran, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy and Great Britain.

One of this year’s main events will be „Macbettu” by Sardegna Teatro and Compagnia Teatropersona from Italy. The performance directed by Alessandro Serra, will be performed in Sardinian. However, as usual, the surtitles translation into Polish and English will be provided.

Moreover three Polish performances will be presented, previously selected for the Golden Yorick Competition Finals. The number of entries for the Competition reached the peak this year, and the Award Winner will be announced during the Festival.

ShakespeareOFF

The festival fringe ShakespeareOFF, for the third time this year is organised in a form of a competition. There is an open call for artists who create various forms of artistic expressions inspired by the works of Shakespeare. The application deadline is 3rd June. The applications should be send to szekspirOFF@gmail.com.

The Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival has a strong educational focus, every year various events of Summer Shakespeare Academy are organised including workshops, seminars, open rehearsals and meetings with the artists.
