For the second time, the Polish Shakespeare Association is holding Prospero’s Book, an award for the most inspiring stage reading of William Shakespeare’s works. Members of the PSA who are part of the jury will watch all the performances presented as part of the 27th Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival, regardless of category and country of origin, and will select a winner from among them, to be awarded a token diploma. We want to recognise a stage interpretation of Shakespeare’s works which, in the opinion of the jury, helps to understand the modern world most accurately and will be remembered by the audience for a long time to come. In King Lear, Shakespeare exposes human folly that justifies our insanity with the imaginary influence of the stars, bad luck or ill fortune. How painful Edmund’s words sound in today’s world that is torn apart by conflicts.
