If there’s anything on earth worth dying for, it’s love. The biggest threat to love is human nature – full of contradictions and fear. It is not Othello who is black – it is his fear that is black, his doubt about himself, his feeling that he does not deserve Desdemona. What in Shakespeare appears peculiar and caused by a complex of skin colour or origin in today’s world is common, prosaic. It is normal that we do not believe in love, that we kill it in ourselves and in others, succumbing to the whispers of the diabolic strength of Iago, which is always looking at us.
